Today At Kiwanis 3-5-2008 -  3/5/2008
Today At Kiwanis 3-5-2008 We had a very good meeting today. Arranging an inter-club to Mid Year Conference. We are also arranging an inter-club to transfer the Traveling Bell to another club in our division. Our program was given by Sherry Dinkel and Judith Otten on Dressing for Life. It was announced that we would have another work day at SMILE on May 3rd.

Today At Kiwanis 5-23-07

We had a very busy agenda today. We presented our Outstanding Teacher of the year award to James Jurchen of Lutheran High Northeast, where he is the director of Music and Information Technology. Paul Leckband – Executive Director/Principal at Lutheran High Northeast gave a short Bio on James’s accomplishments.

Nancy Jacobs, an instructor at Norfolk High School, was a guest of Dennis Miller. Dennis is the Key Club sponsor at the high School. Dennis announced

Today At Kiwanis 4-4-07
Today club was visited by Lt.Governor George Phelps. He presented Club with Distinguished Club Award for 2005-2006. He Presented Past President Mark Hall with Distinguished President Award for 2005-2006. He also presented Terry A. Hirsch with Outstanding Secretary Award for 2005-2006. This is the 5th time he has received this award. After presentations Club Committees met to plan activities for the last half of year

Today At Kiwanis 12-27-06
Great meeting to end the year. We had to returning guest, Cate Fauss and Chris Hilkemann; they both turned in applications to join club. It is a great thing to watch our club grow. We had our weekly report on bloodmobile, and everything went fine there. Activity for the year of 2006 was completed. Our next big activity is our yearly fundraiser, in January.
Our program today was presented by Kim Shoemaker & Christine Wulf. Their program was on Envisions

Today At Kiwanis 12-6-06
Great meeting today. Getting into our busy time of the year. Since our last meeting we were involved in Norfolk Christmas Parade. We were honored by having Santa Claus ride on our Fire Truck. Thursday December 7th we will have a Christmas party for the children in Headstart program. We will provide treats and a visit from Santa for the children. (There will be pictures posted on the public website after the event) The members of our club each took a name from Salvation

Today at Kiwanis 11-22-06
Today we were honored with a visit from Kiwanis District Governor Dave Hessman and Lt. Governor George Phelps. Governor Dave gave us a brief talk on his goals for the District this year. Had a prospective member attend the meeting. It looks as if he will join. Club members will participate in the Christmas parade this year. We will be giving Santa a ride on Club Firetruck.
Our program to was Sarah Johnson. She was one of the candidates for our Key Leader training

Today at Kiwanis 11-15-06
Today we saw the return of Warren Reimer. He has not been able to attend many meetings due to business conflicts, but hopefully now he can be at the meetings a little more often. 7 members planning to go to Wayne next week and visit with the Kiwanis Governor on his official visit. Today At Kiwanis 11-8-06
Today we had a special visit from Lt. Gov. George Phelps. He came to invite our Club to the Governor visit in Wayne on the 21st of November. He also announced that the Governor would make a special visit to our club on the 22nd of November.
Our program today was Carolyn Cheney and her associates. They represent Pawsup Pet Therapy. They use dogs as therapy treatment for people in nursing homes and hospitals. They also help the Red Cross in times of need.

Today we were happy to see Bob Lindsteadt back from his bypass surgery. Bob is doing very well. We had no new guest today. We discussed our involvement with the purchasing of Christmas Presents for needy children.
Our program today was Brooke Hay. She spoke on the AGAPE Pregnancy Care Center. She gave us an update on the new facility, and their current needs.

Meeting today was shortened because Program had to cancel. Had a new guest/perspective member, Lisa Kerber. Club discussed going to Wayne for Governor Visit in November. We have a possibility of 7 members going.

Today at Kiwanis 10-18-06
Had a very nice meeting today. Inducted Gretchen Forsell & Dewey Reimer into the club as new members. Gretchen also presented club with check for $2400.00 to help us purchase backpacks for Foster children. The Christmas party for the Headstart children will be 12-7-06.
Our speaker today was John Dinkel. He spoke on the concerned citizens group in Norfolk, and it's objectives.

Today at Kiwanis 10-11-06
Today was the first official working meeting of the New Kiwanis Year. New President Mike Noelle reported on events at last weeks Board Meeting. Club has purchased new tapes for the Dial-A-Story at the library. They should be in use in a couple of weeks.
Former member and Past President Craig Schmidt visited our club today. He was in town on business.
All committees met today to plan next years activities. Next year should be another great year.

Today a New Year started for us. All new officers were installed today by Lt. Governor George Phelps from Wayne, NE. All awards were given out  for last year's accomplishments. Dennis Mitchell was named Kiwanian of the year. 50% of our members had perfect attendance for last year.

Club getting ready for a busy week in 2 weeks. We will participate in LaVitsef Parade, our Outstanding Student Banquet, and we will have our concession trailer out on the day of the parade. Last week 4 members of our club went to Pierce, NE to visit the Kiwanis Club there.
Our program was presented by Doug & Cheryl Dekker. They told about their trip to New York City 5 years ago to help with the 911 disaster.

Meeting today was well attended by the members. We had no visitors today. Usual business was conducted. The high point during the business session, was announced by Terry Hirsch, that Gretchen Forsell, with Northern Nebraska AHEC, has offered to support our Backpacks for the Fosters Children of the Crisis Nursery. AHEC will donate $2400.00. That will help complete that project for the year.

Today for our 5th Wednesday meeting, a tour of the Norfolk Art Center was arranged by John Burns. A very interesting and informative presentation was given by, Kara Weander-Gaster, Director of the Art Center. We would encourage everyone to visit and enjoy our Art Center.

Not a lot going on this last week. There will be a lot of things in the works for next week. Work at the blood mobile going well every week. On Wednesday 8-30-06 John Hay will be in charge of a group of Kiwanians to help recruit new Key Club members at Norfolk High School. John Burns has planned a 5th Wednesday Trip to the Art Center. It will start at 7:00 AM Wednesday morning 8-30-06.

At today's meeting the members attending the District Convention reported on all of the happenings throughout the District. Terry Hirsch reported on Foundation News. The Foundation is still looking for a major activity to replace PTK. Dennis Mitchell was named Kiwanian of the 3rd Quarter. On the upcoming 5th Wednesday we will go to art center and tour. The program today had to cancel, so we just had general discussions.

Our Club was visited today by 2 members of the Pierce Kiwanis Club; they were Connie Otto and Pam Flesner. They told about the activities in their club. We had report on Board of Directors meeting last Thursday. It was announced that Terry Hirsch had acquired a grant of $1000.00 from Wal-Mart to help with the "Read To Your Bunny" program. This program distributes books to all of the new mothers when they leave the hospital to read to their newborns.

At today's meeting Bob Pratt reported on having fire truck in Tilden parade. Downtown Coffee Company will use concession trailer this weekend at Bike Race. New club T-shirts are in and the look very nice.
Joe Mtika had the program today. He spoke on the children of Malawi. Joe is from Malawi and had a very interesting presentation.

No visitors today. The Downtown Coffee Company will be renting our concession trailer to use Downtown 8-5-06 at the bike race.
Our speaker today was Bill Luckey with the Nebraska Pork Council. He spoke on the pork industry, and his operation in Columbus, NE

Great meeting today. Dewey Reimer returned for another visit, to announce that he would be rejoining our club. Dennis Mitchell was presented an appreciation award, for his work on the concession trailer.
Our speaker today was Steve McNally, noon club President Elect. He has just returned from the International convention in Canada. He gave a very informative talk on the convention.

Today's guest was Dewey Reimer. He was a former member and is possibly going to rejoin. We discussed are passed activities with the 4th of July parade and the concession stand, everything went well at both. We will be sending 4 members to the District convention in Kearney in August.
Are speaker was Skip St. Arnold. He told us about the homeless shelter her runs in Norfolk.

We had one guest at our meeting today. Gary Wisnieski is moving back into the area, and he stopped in to visit our club. We arranged for all of the people for tonights work project at Bright Horizon.
The lettering on the Concession Trailer will be complete on Thursday June 29th. You can view finished pictures on Photo Album  Page. This will be the big weekend for it, with HyVee using it at Big Bang Boom and us using it at, and in the 4th of July parade.

Due to the 4th of July being on Tuesday and many of us will be up late on Tuesday evening doing fireworks the Wednesday morning meeting on July 5th will be cancelled.

Had no new guests today. Members discussed 3 upcoming projects. On June 28th we will rebuild fence at Bright Horizon Shelter, and on July 4th we will operate our new concession stand at Memorial Field before the parade, and then have the Fire Truck in the Parade.
Bob Pratt gave the program on his mission trip to Jamaica.
New Concession trailer was on display outside for everyone to see.

We had a visit from Bob Marshall Kiwanis Noon Club President and Dan Fuerhoff Noon Club Sectetary.
Wishing wells were collected and last quarters receipts were good. The club decided to meet on July 5th, and to participate in the 4th of July Parade.
Concession Trailer is almost complete and will be out and running by July 1st. It was decided that when available any local Kiwanis clubs could rent trailer for $50.00 a day, and any approved private party could

At this weeks meeting The Lt. Governor Merlin Milander announced that they had a very successful Training cession for next year’s officers last Saturday. Training was done by Everett Breach, are Division 18 trainer.

The golf outing that was held last Wednesday evening was very successful. Pictures will be posted on the Photo page.

At todays meeting Tim Kassimeier, of Norfolk Catholic High School, was awarded Norfolk Morning Kiwanis Teacher of the Year. A picture and Bio has been posted on the photo page. A proposal for a community project was presented by Michael Hall of Norfolk. He is a boy scout who is working on attaining hes Eagle Badge. His project consists of repairing and painting the fence around the Bright Horizon shelter in Norfolk. The Kiwanis club will assist him with this

On 5-17-06 at the regular meeeting of the Norfolk Morning Kiwanis, Courtney Janssen, was awarded the clubs outstanding youth in Agriculture Award. At the same meeting Terry Hirsch and Bob Pratt were awarded co-kiwanians of the 2nd quarter, for their work on the club fundraiser, microwave popcorn. Pictures are posted on photo page.

On Saturday May 6th a group of kiwanis members and a member from the Knights of Columbus went to S.M.I.L.E. in Battle Creek, NE to do a work project. The volunteers put up a 4 wire electric fence for the horses. The work project is probably 80% completed. A little more fence needs to be done as well as running a waterline for the horses. Pictures are posted on this site from that project.

Norfolk Morning Kiwanis has taken on a new fund raising project. They have purchased a concession trailer. This trailer will be seen at upcoming local events. Watch for it and support Norfolk Morning Kiwanis.   Currently concession trailer is getting a new paint job. View pictures of the upgrade on the photo page.

Nebraska/Iowa District Goveror, Ray Ward, visited Division 18 clubs in Norfolk,NE. 31 members attended the banquet Friday April 21st. A good time was had by all.
